Welcome to
Volume 1, Issue 4
of the Newark Family Success Center Newsletter! On an
ongoing basis, this newsletter will highlight some of the
wonderful work of Newark's Family Success Centers, which are
"one-stop" centers that connect Newark families to essential
resources and services. There are 12 Family Success Centers
in Newark and that number will continue to grow in the months
to come.

an educational conference featuring Bill Cosby as Keynote
Speaker. The conference entitled, "Strong Families. Strong
Communities. Building Family Success in New Jersey", will
celebrate Family Success in Newark and around the State
of New Jersey.

Vizcarrondo, Newark Now Executive Director Modia Butler, and
New Jersey Department of Children and Families Commissioner
Kevin Ryan joined today with representatives from a variety
of public and private organizations at a press conference
to launch the new Family Success Initiative in the City of Newark.

Marking the first anniversary of the establishment of the
Department of Children and Families (DCF), Commissioner Kevin
Ryan announced $4 million in grant awards to 20 agencies
across the state to expand or create neighborhood-based
family success centers.

On May 1st, Family Intervention Services and Newark Now will present an
educational conference featuring Bill Cosby as Keynote Speaker. The
conference entitled, "Strong Families. Strong Communities. Building
Family Success in New Jersey", will celebrate Family Success in Newark
and around the State of New Jersey. A new initiative in the state, the
Family Success Movement is a collaboration of state, county and
municipal governments, parent organizations, providers, corporations,
foundations and everyday citizens working to ensure that families can
access the resources and supports they need to be successful. The
conference will bring together a unique audience to celebrate the
exciting renaissance occurring in Newark and the groundbreaking,
positive changes that are happening for New Jersey's families.
Dr. Cosby, co-author of the recent Come on People, will encourage the
audience to make a better life for their children, their community and
for their future. Newark Mayor Cory Booker will lead off the day's
activities. There will be a special appearance by Peter Yarrow of
Peter, Paul and Mary, founder of Operation Respect, a non-profit
educational advocacy organization. David Tyree, Wide Receiver for The
New York Giants, will be a guest speaker at the conference's afternoon
session.
The event will be held at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark
(rthotel.com).
Registration will begin at 8 AM and conclude by 4 PM.
